Herbert Breiter

Herbert BREITER was born in Germany in 1927. After the entrance examination at the Art Academy he got accepted. From 1945 onwards he lived in Austria. In Salzburg Breiter took another entrance examination, as this was the retirement to stay in Austria. In 1947 he became an Austrian citizen. He was a student of Max Peifer-Watenphul and a member of the Salzburger Kunstverein. He did a lot of exhibitions and went on many field trips across Europe, especially to Greece. He became member of the Art Club and the Salzburger Gruppe. After a serious illness Herbert Breiter died in 1999. Very important for his art is the mediterranean landscape. The sea, the olive trees and vineyards are his main themes and symbols for Liveliness and pleasure. The strong influence of his teacher Watenphul becomes evident when studying his pictures. Herbert Breiter is still a very important artist of Salzburg.
